Kirsten back story dates - must read for anyone concerned with dating their doll

white bodies through 1990. When Felicity was introduced in 1991 all bodies tan.

Also there was a year or so that dolls were made in Hungary. I am guessing this was 1993. Sometime in 1994 (I think) dolls started being made in China.

I got my Kirsten either Dec. 1989 or Jan. 1990- she has a tan body. (I got her before Felicity was introduced, for either Christmas or my birthday, but don't remember which)

So, there are some pre-Felicity dolls out there with tan bodies- I assume because although she was not released, she was in production.

My first dol...Kirsten was an '86 and she definately had a tan body. The one I got a couple years later (like 88 or 89) is also a tan (well flesh tone body. (quick explaination- PC didn't always offer head replacements and my sister was quite good at getting my dolls and doing haircuts so my mom replaced Kirsten for me). My mom bought a Molly in '86 as well that is display only and she is not WB, she's definately a flesh body.

As memory serves the dolls were still made in Germany after the reunification of Germany...I don't think I really started seeing China until around 1995 when I got my AGOT (A lot of my dolls prior to 95 didn't have body tags...their wrist tags indicated where they were made)

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is what I remember.

Hmmm. Your mom got a 86 non WB Molly? That's interesting. I guess the it is possible that the Kirsten could be made in Germany still. I guess we will have to talk to Ms. Rowland herself to get it all sorted out, or a high ranking employee. I guess the doll could be one of the last round made in Germany.

white bodied dolls do not have tags. I saw a WB Molly from c. 1993. I think Molly was made with a white body later than the rest. I also think there were different factories and the factory determines what body type each one has.

My three white bodies (Sam, Kirsten and Molly) have no body tags.
It is my understanding that before Felicity was introduced some of the 3 original girls were done with white bodies and some with tan, and they went to "all tan" when Lissie (and her lower necklines) came around.

It is a complicated world...

I am not an expert, but from what I read here and have seen this is my thoughts of how dating/production went for PC/AG:

1986 - 1988 W. German made dolls, white bodies, all bears the tags 1986 Germany.
1989 - 1993ish W German made, flesh bodies, still tagged w/ 1986 German tags, some clothes dated and tagged China.
1994 - 1998ish PC still, but everything tagged made in China, dates according to production year.
1998ish on Mattel takes over and the company gradually beacomes American Girl and quality declines, etc.

Well, my friends Kirsten doll was a tan body tagged Germany 1986, so I assumed that it was from TB German years, the dates on the dress is 1995, bonnet 1996.

Well here's what the seller told my friend:
She got the doll in 1997ish. The doll had silver eye when she got the doll, at least in her memory.
Well, basically this means that PC was still tagging doll bodies made in Germany that were actually made in China! Unless by some odd means they had some leftover nude Kirstens laying around from the German era, that they dressed in the right before Mattel era to sell.
So just because a doll is tagged German made, doesn't mean that ut neccessarily is.

Any comments from anyone concerning this? I thoguht this would be something important to bring to everyone's attention, since dating dolls is very important to alot of people.

Did she say she got her new from the company? She could have gotten her from someone else in 1997, and that could explain the silver eye. I also wanted to add that my White Body Molly doesn't have a tag, now I know that's not Kirsten, but just thought in case they made them all the same the WB might not have tags. She does have tags on her clothes. Interesting...
